Amelioration of acid sulphate soils in Nilwala river basin

چکیده
Paddy tracts of Nilwala basin has been affected by the implementation Flood Protection and Drainage Project in 1979 due to excessive drainage, nearly 7000 acres land is abandoned. The water table goes down level 50 cm below soil surface during dry periods pH falls 3-4 causing acid sulphate condition. Hitherto several efforts have made ameliorate paddy lands but no any economical solution obtained. National Science Foundation project find out feasibility using natural hydraulic forces increase keep forming minerals at bay cultivate rice these lands. Water fluctuation relation drainage channel was studied over one year there found a very high correlation (r2=0.985) indicating possibility increasing heading up channel. Simulated pot experiment showed that 15 allows grow effectively, showing plant survival 112 (53%) compared 28 (15%) plants control. Recorded height Bg. 357 variety 35 22 different treatments control, respectively. Soil also increased value closer 6.0 treatment which conducive for cultivation. However, low values heights were unusual extreme rainfall 2020/21 Maha season 10 years’ average. SAARC J. Agric., 20(2): 211-221 (2022)

Characterization of the helminth parasites of wild fish has a considerable importance from the point of view of hygiene and public health, as well as from its taxonomic interest. To study the pathogenecity of parasites in the field of fisheries, require detail knowledge of the parasites inhabiting localities involved. Present study aimed to investigate the intestinal nematodes from the Puntius ...
متن کاملChemical Amelioration of Expansive Soils
Expansive soils swell when they absorb water and shrink when water evaporates from them. Hence, lightly loaded civil engineering structures founded in these soils are subjected to severe distress. Therefore, there is a need to ameliorate or improve these swelling soils through some innovative methods. This paper discusses chemical stabilisation of expansive soils, a technique in which chemical ...

Biodiversity of soil fungi was explored in soils of the National Park of Urmia Lake. For this purpose, 46 soil samples were collected from 5–15 cm depth and isolation was made using soil dilution plate and Warcup soil plate methods. Fungal isolates were identified based on cultural and morphological criteria. The results obtained in this study revealed that there is a rich diversity among hypho...

15 صفحه اولAmelioration and Management of Shrimp Ponds in Acid Sulfate Soils: Key Researchable Issues
TLA!rapid expansion of shrimp farming has resulted in extensive excavation of coastal sediments that contain pyrite (FeS2). When oxidised, pyritic sediments develop into acid sulfate soils (ASS), which are characterised by high acidity and elevated concentrations of sulfate and toxic metals (Golez 1995). ASS reduce water quality in shrimp ponds, groundwater and nearby creeks and estuaries. Cons...
